明修棧道暗渡陳倉(cāng) 催化劑5.4搶先測(cè)試
顯示芯片制造業(yè)為了讓人們理解起來(lái)容易,借用了很多汽車(chē)上的名字,比如驅(qū)動(dòng)汽車(chē)的“Engine”(引擎),驅(qū)動(dòng)硬件的“Driver”(驅(qū)動(dòng)/司機(jī))。Driver在汽車(chē)上叫做司機(jī),但是在電腦上叫做驅(qū)動(dòng)程序,人們習(xí)慣簡(jiǎn)稱為“驅(qū)動(dòng)”。驅(qū)動(dòng)程序是軟件,負(fù)責(zé)應(yīng)用軟件和硬件的連接,驅(qū)動(dòng)程序的好壞能夠很大程度上影響硬件的發(fā)揮。
上周末,ATI發(fā)布了他們最新的催化劑5.4版的驅(qū)動(dòng),我們今天就來(lái)看看這版驅(qū)動(dòng)的表現(xiàn)。

在ATI的官方主頁(yè),對(duì)這款驅(qū)動(dòng)的改進(jìn)的部分描述的是:
- 3DMark2001: A black screen is no longer displayed when launching 3DMark2001 after launching Aquamark3 when the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER is installed (解決了先運(yùn)行AquaMark3后運(yùn)行3DMark2001時(shí)出現(xiàn)黑屏的問(wèn)題。)
- Pacific Fighters: Playing the game after playing any track for a short period of time and having the landscape detail set to perfect no longer results in the clouds becoming blocking when flying (解決了在太平洋空戰(zhàn)中云的效果的問(wèn)題)
- Sail Simulator 4: Attempting to play the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON™ 9800 XT installed no longer results in the operating system failing to respond and rebooting (解決了使用98XT在WinXP下玩模擬航海4無(wú)響應(yīng)的問(wèn)題)
- SolidWorks 2004: Display corruption is no longer noticed when setting the AA to 6X and AF to 16X (解決了SolidWorks 2004中的問(wèn)題)

下面還有一些跟游戲無(wú)關(guān)的改進(jìn):
- Using the ATI Problem Report Wizard under Windows XP SP2 with an ATI RADEON™ X850 XT installed no longer results in an error message appearing when clicking the Finish button for the problem report
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: An option to select Yes or No to changes made in SMARTGART™ is now displayed when clicking the Apply button in SMARTGART™
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: Playing a video clip in the background and entering the Overlay page found in the Video section no longer results in the default value for the Hue not being reapplied unless the CATALYST™ CONTROL™ CENTER is closed and re-launched
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: Selecting Germany as the language no longer results in some of the text overlapping each other on the Unlock button
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: Selecting Netherlands (Dutch) as the language no longer results in some of the text in the Hotkey manager being cut off
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: The Bus setting information is now displayed in the Graphic Hardware section of the Information Center found
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: The Display Manager Wizard no longer contains a Component Video single display setting message, when multi-display desktop mode is selected
- CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER: Custom modes can only be applied if the display device can support the mode selected
- Attempting to apply a higher refresh rate to a non-DDC monitor no longer results in the refresh rate reverting to 60hz.
- SXGA+ LCD panel flicker is no longer noticed when the frame buffer (UMA size) is set to 32MB or 64MB
由于是正式版的驅(qū)動(dòng),所以我們看出ATI還是用了很多心思的,這也正是消費(fèi)者需要的,因?yàn)閷?duì)于顯示芯片廠商,驅(qū)動(dòng)程序幾乎是唯一的售后服務(wù)形式。
驅(qū)動(dòng)程序?qū)τ谛阅艿挠绊懖⒉粫?huì)特別大,這是我們都知道的,就像是舒馬赫開(kāi)奧托肯定比一個(gè)二流車(chē)手開(kāi)跑車(chē)慢,何況驅(qū)動(dòng)之間的差別并不一定像舒馬赫和二流車(chē)手那么大。
所以我們的測(cè)試就要求環(huán)境非常嚴(yán)謹(jǐn),我們使用GHOST備份了一個(gè)干凈的操作系統(tǒng),每次測(cè)試都重新安裝驅(qū)動(dòng)和軟件。

為了盡可能體現(xiàn)出驅(qū)動(dòng)的差別,所以我們采用了最好的跑車(chē),也就是Radeon X850 XT。











1、用WinRAR打開(kāi)Doom3 pak000.pk4壓縮包,在WinRAR文件瀏覽框當(dāng)中找到interaction.vfp文件,用記事本打開(kāi)interaction.vfp文件;
2、在interaction.vfp當(dāng)中找到以下代碼:
PARAM subOne = { -1, -1, -1, -1 };
PARAM scaleTwo = { 2, 2, 2, 2 };
在這段代碼下面加上PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 }; ,現(xiàn)在這段代碼應(yīng)該是:
PARAM subOne = { -1, -1, -1, -1 };
PARAM scaleTwo = { 2, 2, 2, 2 };
PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 };
3、將以下代碼:
# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
修改為:
# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
# TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
POW R1, specular.x, specExp.x;
4、保存interaction.vfp文件,WinRAR會(huì)詢問(wèn)是否更新Doom3 pak000.pk4壓縮包當(dāng)中的文件,選擇“是”。至此修改完成。
根據(jù)Humus自己測(cè)試,在1280×1024分辨率下,修改前的fps是34fps,修改之后的fps是48fps。
今天我們的測(cè)試過(guò)程并沒(méi)有發(fā)現(xiàn)成績(jī)有大幅的提升,說(shuō)明ATI并沒(méi)有在這個(gè)版本的驅(qū)動(dòng)中采用這種方法,而是真的在挖掘顯示芯片性能的方面下了功夫。
在文章的前面我們看到ATI對(duì)這款驅(qū)動(dòng)的描述中沒(méi)有提及Doom3的性能提升,看來(lái)這是一個(gè)“明修棧道,暗渡陳倉(cāng)”之計(jì)。

如果您是一般的用戶,可以說(shuō)沒(méi)有升級(jí)這款驅(qū)動(dòng)的意義,因?yàn)閷?duì)于性能這款驅(qū)動(dòng)并沒(méi)有很明顯的提高,即使是提到最大的Doom3也幾乎讓人察覺(jué)不到。
如果您是一個(gè)游戲玩家,不妨換這版驅(qū)動(dòng)試試,因?yàn)樵诖呋瘎〤ontrol Center方面,ATI還是做了不少的改進(jìn)的,另外對(duì)幾款游戲的兼容性的改進(jìn)也是十分有必要的。
